Hello and welcome to another episode of the this dude thinks podcast. I am Steve and with me as always is Patrick and we're just a couple of dudes talking about dude things from a dude perspective, dude.
We’ve designed this podcast for all to experience the perspectives of dudes, Because in this day and age it can seem hard to find masculine, common sense, viewpoints. We’re confident, what can be is true, merit-based equality; and what has been, wasn’t so bad. So, let us unburden ourselves of the woke mind virus and learn from one another.
If you want to know more about us, you can find our inaugural episode in your podcast app, or on this dude thinks on Substack.
Today I wanted to discuss one of the more dude things that exists that often gets a bad rap, is often misunderstood, is generally discussed negatively by non-participants, and is actually a net benefit on your personal health.
I want to talk about working out. The gym. The gain-nasium. The dungeon. The Ironworks. The dojo. International House of Gains. GTL Emporium. Church.
Whatever you call it, the idea is the same. The gym is a place you can go to work on your health, work out your issues, and get a little better than yesterday.
Whether you're a weekend warrior, a cardio kid, or a full fledged gym rat - you understand why the gym is a positive impact on your life. I was hoping to discuss this today in a way that could invite more people toward gym culture - or at the very least suggest that more individuals take more direct action for their personal health.
We're recording on August 30th and just today Bryan Dean Wright on The Wright Report described the benefits of being a weekend warrior or exercising just two days a week. He quoted an article out of the UK that stated those individuals that do workout, even a couple of days a week enjoy the same benefits to their brain health including reduced risk of dementia, stroke, Parkinson’s, depression, and anxiety amongst other benefits. (Read the article: Weekend-Oriented Physical Activity Superior for Brain Health)
Other health benefits include increased energy, quality of sleep, joint health, immune support, bone strength, and many other benefits that escape my mind.
The workout recommended for Patrick…
Kinetic Stretches for 3 minutes prior to work-out followed by 20 minutes of cardio (walking dog, running, elliptical, bike, really does not matter, just get your heart rate up).
On gym days:
Warm-up: Kinetic Stretches for 3 to 5 minutes.
Exercise 1: Squat 2x10
Exercise 2: DB Bench 2x10
Exercise 3: Rows 2x10
Exercise 4: Crunches 2x40
Exercise 5: Leg Extension 2x10
Exercise 6: DB Flies 2x10
Exercise 7: Lat Pulldown 2x10
Exercise 8: Plank 2x60seconds
Exercise 9: Leg Curls 2x10
